The 3-storey brick base of the building responds to the existing 19th Century terrace which is prominently positioned on the corner of the urban block, helping to re-establish the historic three storey street frontage to Yelverton road, closely linking the design to its context.
Continued cycles of regeneration is creating a skyline are very different to the warehouses and terraces that used to line the streets. Appearing to ‘float’ above the podium a 12-storey metal clad object responds to the broader context developing along York Road. Between the two forms of the buildings is a garden at 3rd floor level which provides internal and external amenity space for all residents, and visually separates the two contrasting blocks. This unique space provides attractive garden space up above the adjacent York Road and has south facing lawns, a more shaded games space and planted garden with views to the River Thames, as well as a resident’s lounge and ‘work from home’ room.
