Fresh Wharf in Barking forms part of the developer Countryside’s wider masterplan for the area providing an additional 379 new homes of varying tenures on a former brownfield site next to the River Roding, a short walk from Barking town centre. Alongside the dwellings, a public park, new riverside walk and commercial space will enliven the local offer.
Laid out as five blocks in between the river walkway to the east and the new public park to the south, the buildings vary in height to mediate the urban terrain. In addition to the eight and nine storey buildings, 18 three storey houses create a human scale around the park and along the riverfront. Pitched roof forms echo a granary building on the opposing riverbank, while the positioning of windows and angular balconies introduces rhythm to the façade.
Dwelling layouts have been designed to prioritise natural daylight and ventilation and terraces and private balconies have been positioned to take advantage of expansive views over either the River Roding or the landscaped park.
