GRIDinside was selected by competition to design the interiors for the Theatre Square development in Camden for Essential Living. Inspired by the three adjacent theatres in this new cultural quarter, the double height, semi–public entrance hall celebrates the vibrancy and glamour of the ‘opening night’. The spaces include a music room, meeting rooms, occasional and varied seating areas and the concierge centre. Some of the formal metaphors include the signage lights and abstractions of the theatre curtains in the wall panelling.
The main amenity space on the top floor includes a resident’s lounge, two dining spaces which tenants can hire, terraces and a large gym and studio. Our approach maintains the concept of ‘Theatre’ in the colour scheme. Essential Living’s apartment interior concept has also been refreshed to suit the project with a greater level of refinement to the finishes. Located above a Swiss Cottage London Underground station, adjacent to a new park, two theatres and a market square, the new building will be a catalyst for tying together public buildings to the north and south to create what is, in effect, a cultural quarter.
