With views over the Thames and Westminster Palace, Southbank Place is set to be one of London’s truly iconic places. GRIDarchitects developed two towers driven by the internal plan which were in turn generated by views studies. Apartment values are very sensitive to the quality of aspect as well as the entrance arrangement and address. As plans developed interesting typologies of duplexes and large laterals were needed to capitalise on these views and retain privacy between other adjacent towers.

GRID led the development and technical coordination of the plans with Goddard Littlefair as interior designers. The bronze and stone exterior materials are brought into the double height entrance hall with a triple height staircase leading down to a private gym at basement levels and up to a private lounge, cinema, bar and dining room on the first floor. The concierge facilities coordinate across all adjoining buildings and allows access to delivery and catering facilities and business suites.

The apartments are generous in size with large balconies and terraces. A great deal of attention has been paid to window and terrace detailing with level thresholds and stone finishes inside and out. The patterned bronze panels of the facades are also used as reveals, balcony walls and soffits to enhance the idea of a bronze box wrapped in a stone frame – an example of how interiors and exteriors can work together to greater overall affect.
