A planning application for the redevelopment of the former London Chest has been registered by Tower Hamlets. The application for Crest Nicholson comprises 341 flats and a new nursery. Key to the masterplan is the restoration and reuse of the original Victorian hospital building including the iron balconies ( used for patients beds as convalescence from TB ) and the sanitation tower which formed part of the original ventilation system. Within a wider collegiate plan of interlocking, stepped courtyards, extensive landscaping and the careful protection of mature trees will make this a unique and beautiful retreat in Bethnal Green. KMH advised on heritage and Turley are planning consultant.
