100 Avenue Road in Swiss Cottage has been given the go-ahead by the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government. This represents the second appeal win for GRID and the latest in a growing list of build for rent buildings. The project for Essential Living, the developer and operator of homes for rent, will deliver around 200 homes as well as an array of communal facilities and amenity spaces. Camden Council rejected the proposals for 184 flats in September 2014, although the scheme had being recommended for approval by them and praised by Design Council CABE and GLA. Now called Theatre Square, the development will see an old 1980s office building demolished to make way for a 24-storey residential tower containing 130 apartments specifically designed for renting. The tower will be joined with a part five-storey, part seven-storey lower podium block hosting 30 affordable homes, as well as flexible retail space and a new community centre over 7 floors.
